Stock Market Recommendations - How to Make Use of Them

This is the twelfth and final article helping you learn how to make money in the stock market. Search for "Learning the Stock Market" to find the first article which lists the entire series.

Where can I find reliable stock market recommendations? Well think about this carefully. Make sure you're reading the best financial newspaper. Here you should find plenty of excellent stocks featured along with their charts and supporting fundamental data. They may not be under the heading of recommended stocks but they could prove to be some of your best leads. Be very wary of specific recommendations.

What interest does the person recommending have in the stock? Will he carry your loss if all goes wrong? Will he tell you when to sell? Do you want to be reliant upon this individual and not really know why you are buying a stock? If you want to develop truly independent financial security you need to be the one recommending stocks to yourself (and possibly you friends and family!) based upon a sound educated analysis.

How do I know if a recommendation is any good? Take a look at the recommended or featured stock and see if it fits your criteria for potentially being a leader. Does it's fundamental data stack up? where is it in terms of building a base on it's chart? Does the corporation have a new feature? Are leading institutions buying it? Where does it sit in it's group in terms of financial performance?

So what do I do with a stock market recommendation? Anything that has a generalized fit on fundamentals may be a decent candidate for your watch list. You watch list should develop into about 80-100 stocks over time. More than this and you will not be able to keep tabs on what is going on but less than 40-50 and you're probably missing some action out there. Keep browsing and pruning your watch list - don't let it become unruly and keep cutting out relative poor performers to make room for up and coming leaders. During a downturn you will find your list naturally shorter.

In fact your list can help to confirm other signals that the market is preparing for a turn. You'll start to find more and more candidates are coming through your screening and reading activities around that time. Develop good and regular habits perhaps consider analysing 1 or 2 stocks in more detail every day - that will give you a list turnover of roughly 10 stocks per week. Of these, likely only 1 will stand head and shoulders above the other 9 but you don't need many provided they are the right ones!

Put analysed stocks that are not up to scratch in a separate list and the excellent potential winners in a short list. Keep your general watch list separate and in this way you keep your work organised and wont be missing opportunities or duplicating work. Hope you found it informative reading about Stock Market recommendations - How to Make Use of Them. There are no more articles in this series entitled Learning the Stock Market. If you missed any just search under Bill Benson to find them all. I hope you've found it profitable to follow along.

Change, Happiness, Success And Our Core Values

The saying that "change is the only constant thing in this world" holds profound meaning in every sense of the word. Backed by this universal truth is also the dictum that there is no such thing as 'forever'. However, amidst all these acclaimed universal truths, there are things in this world that stay eternal: One of them our set of core values the fundamentals that enable us to find happiness and success in our lives.

In his # 1 National Bestseller book that sold over 10 million copies, author Stephen R. Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (1990 ed.) illustrates his own personal experience on change. As a parent, he claims that to change a situation, we first have to change ourselves, and to change ourselves effectively, we first have to change our perceptions. However, Dr. Phil argues that it's more complicated than that. Illustrated in his book Life Strategies - Stop Making Excuses! Do What Works, Do What Matters (1999 ed.), he firmly wants to instill in our minds the glaring truth about change that we can not change what we do not acknowledge. In similar fashion, I totally agree on his argument. It's like saying that the hardest thing to open in this world is a closed mind - therefore making change difficult to occur.

There are some people who have a mindset to make some changes in their lives and choose to be happy. Even the great Chinese philosopher Confucius would agree in his belief that "man must be wise and unafraid to live a happy life" - a philosophy similarly shared by his contemporary, Mencius where he enumerates three mature virtues of his 'great man' as wisdom, compassion and courage deliberated in Lin Yutang's book, The Importance of Living (1962 ed.) a must-to-read book for daily living.

Likewise, Stephen R. Covey focuses the "Character Ethic" as the foundation of success things like integrity, humility, fidelity, temperance, courage, justice, patience, industry, simplicity, modesty and the Golden Rule.

In his book, he presented Benjamin Franklin's autobiography as the epitome of these values "a man's effort to integrate certain principles and habits deep within his nature", he explained. The Character Ethic, according to Covey teaches us that there are basic principles of effective living, and that people can only experience true success and enduring happiness as they learn and integrate these principles into their basic character.

In addition, Anthony Scire's dynamic and contemporary book The Power of 2 (2003 ed.) promotes building solid relationships over the long term and encouraging us to be "nice, kind and good" to everyone we know and meet. This highlights Henry James's core value of kindness:"Three things in human life are important", he said. "The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind." In the same book, then eminent Bishop Fulton J. Sheen admonished us to also take control of our emotions so that we may live a successful and happy life. He said: "Each of us makes his own weather determines the color of the skies in the emotional universe which he inhabits."

Change therefore is inevitable in our lives. If - and when it comes, our core values should help us adapt to the consequences of change. Hence, as exemplified by great and wise men of past and present generations, our happiness and success depend upon our core values and attitudes.

Remodeling Off a Cliff

Recently people have been spending big money for remodeling and using "resale" as an excuse to spend outrageous amounts of money. But if you have to sell your house in today's market it could be a loser's game.

Many people are actually refinancing their homes to do the remodels and going into serious debt to pay for the work. They are essentially financing the remodel for significantly longer than most trendy improvements, i.e. granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.

This leads us to our first rule.

1. If you have to refinance to pay for the work, you can't afford it.
2. Clean up. It's a lot of work, but worth the time. Clean, orderly homes always resale better.
3. Get rid of junk. When I have my houses for sale there is nothing sitting on the floor or impeding traffic flow even in the closets.
4. Remove wallpaper and put up soft neutral paint inside and out. Modern buyers do not like wallpaper.
5. Pay more attention to street appeal than interior decorating. Cute houses resell better and faster than other houses.

This last point...the one about street appeal...is the biggest one you need to have on your side if you need to resale fast. How your house looks from the street matters more than your interior. If buyers don't like the outside they won't even come in to see what you have done inside.

If you own a house that has no street appeal in a good neighborhood you might have a great chance to make money even in a slowing real estate market.

But how do you get street appeal?

It is tough. Just ask all the builders who are stuck with inventories of unsold homes. Street appeal is a moving target. Here are some strategies and recommendations.

1. Try to improve the landscaping pushing it out enough to frame the house rather than hiding it.
2. Make a nice wide path to the door.
3. Paint and use more than one color.
4. Make sure all colors work together including the roof.
5. Add some rock.
6. Frame out windows.
7. Stay true to the architecture of the house both inside and out.

You can no longer just throw a house up for sale and expect it to be easy. You have to work at it. Those first days the property is on the market can never be done over. Do your homework and don't put your house on the market until it is ready.

Clean it up, price it competitively and make it the cutest house on the block. Don't follow all the remodeling gurus along with the crowd right off a cliff.

A Match Made In Heaven

Mary Magdalene is this years leading lady. Common misconception used to paint her as a lowly prostitute. Now, no one is quite sure what to think. Her life has become a mystery for modern Sherlock Holmess everywhere. But, no one has channeled the man of reason better than Dan Brown. In The DaVinci Code Dan Brown firmly supports the marriage theory. But is it really possible Mary and Jesus were married? To find the answer the Bible is not the only thing under scrutiny. Culture needs examining too.

Separate but equal is not a new concept. During Jesus time men and women hardly ever mixed. A womans domain was her home, while men kept the public persona. If a woman did anything in public, she got permission from her husband. In the Bible, Mary Magdalene traveled. She met Jesus at his early teaching at Galilee and appeared in Judea where Jesus was crucified. Since women could not leave their homes on a whim, Mary had to be married to someone. Jesus is the best candidate.

The Gnostic Gospels, written by early Christian followers, claim Jesus and Magdalene had a very close relationship. It is written Jesus was extremely fond of her and used to kiss her. This action meant one of two things: adultery or marriage. Men did not feel comfortable with their wifes speaking to male relatives, let alone kissing strange prophets. The scandal would have ruined Jesus reputation. The only option left is marriage. Even holy men had wifes; it was unnatural to be alone.

Based on the cultural evidence, a bond between Jesus and Mary Magdalene was very likely. They were too free around each other not to be married. The Bible says God made everything with the purpose of balance. Jesus was not above this. He needed a woman to be complete. That woman was Mary Magdalene.

The History of New Years Resolutions

The tradition of the New Year's Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar.

With two faces, Janus could look back on past events and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year.

The New Year has not always begun on January 1, and it doesn't begin on that date everywhere today. It begins on that date only for cultures that use a 365-day solar calendar. January 1 became the beginning of the New Year in 46 B.C., when Julius Caesar developed a calendar that would more accurately reflect the seasons than previous calendars had.

The Romans named the first month of the year after Janus, the god of beginnings and the guardian of doors and entrances. He was always depicted with two faces, one on the front of his head and one on the back. Thus he could look backward and forward at the same time. At midnight on December 31, the Romans imagined Janus looking back at the old year and forward to the new.

The Romans began a tradition of exchanging gifts on New Year's Eve by giving one another branches from sacred trees for good fortune. Later, nuts or coins imprinted with the god Janus became more common New Year's gifts.

In the Middle Ages, Christians changed New Year's Day to December 25, the birth of Jesus. Then they changed it to March 25, a holiday called the Annunciation. In the sixteenth century, Pope Gregory XIII revised the Julian calendar, and the celebration of the New Year was returned to January 1.

The Julian and Gregorian calendars are solar calendars. Some cultures have lunar calendars, however. A year in a lunar calendar is less than 365 days because the months are based on the phases of the moon. The Chinese use a lunar calendar. Their new year begins at the time of the first full moon (over the Far East) after the sun enters Aquarius- sometime between January 19 and February 21.

Although the date for New Year's Day is not the same in every culture, it is always a time for celebration and for customs to ensure good luck in the coming year.

Ancient New Years

The celebration of the New Year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, Babylonians celebrated the beginning of a new year on what is now March 23, although they themselves had no written calendar.

Late March actually is a logical choice for the beginning of a new year. It is the time of year that spring begins and new crops are planted. January 1, on the other hand, has no astronomical nor agricultural significance. It is purely arbitrary.

The Babylonian New Year celebration lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration, but it is safe to say that modern New Year's Eve festivities pale in comparison.

The Romans continued to observe the New Year on March 25, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various emperors so that the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun.

In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the New Year. But tampering continued until Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, established what has come to be known as the Julian Calendar. It again established January 1 as the New Year. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days.

Global Good Luck Traditions

With New Year's upon us, here's a look at some of the good luck rituals from around the world. They are believed to bring good fortune and prosperity in the coming year.

AUSTRIA - The suckling pig is the symbol for good luck for the new year. It's served on a table decorated with tiny edible pigs. Dessert often consists of green peppermint ice cream in the shape of a four-leaf clover.

ENGLAND - The British place their fortunes for the coming year in the hands of their first guest. They believe the first visitor of each year should be male and bearing gifts. Traditional gifts are coal for the fire, a loaf for the table and a drink for the master. For good luck, the guest should enter through the front door and leave through the back. Guests who are empty-handed or unwanted are not allowed to enter first.

WALES - At the first toll of midnight, the back door is opened and then shut to release the old year and lock out all of its bad luck. Then at the twelfth stroke of the clock, the front door is opened and the New Year is welcomed with all of its luck.

HAITI - In Haiti, New Year's Day is a sign of the year to come. Haitians wear new clothing and exchange gifts in the hope that it will bode well for the new year.

SICILY - An old Sicilian tradition says good luck will come to those who eat lasagna on New Year's Day, but woe if you dine on macaroni, for any other noodle will bring bad luck.

SPAIN - In Spain, when the clock strikes midnight, the Spanish eat 12 grapes, one with every toll, to bring good luck for the 12 months ahead.

PERU - The Peruvian New Year's custom is a spin on the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at the turn of the year. But in Peru, a 13th grape must be eaten to assure good luck.

GREECE - A special New Year's bread is baked with a coin buried in the dough. The first slice is for the Christ child, the second for the father of the household and the third slice is for the house. If the third slice holds the coin, spring will come early that year.

JAPAN - The Japanese decorate their homes in tribute to lucky gods. One tradition, kadomatsu, consists of a pine branch symbolizing longevity, a bamboo stalk symbolizing prosperity, and a plum blossom showing nobility.

CHINA - For the Chinese New Year, every front door is adorned with a fresh coat of red paint, red being a symbol of good luck and happiness. Although the whole family prepares a feast for the New Year, all knives are put away for 24 hours to keep anyone from cutting themselves, which is thought to cut the family's good luck for the next year.

UNITED STATES - The kiss shared at the stroke of midnight in the United States is derived from masked balls that have been common throughout history. As tradition has it, the masks symbolize evil spirits from the old year and the kiss is the purification into the new year.

NORWAY - Norwegians make rice pudding at New Year's and hide one whole almond within. Guaranteed wealth goes to the person whose serving holds the lucky almond.

Chinese New Year

Except for a very few number of people who can keep track of when the Chinese New Year should be, the majority of the Chinese today have to rely on a typical Chinese calendar to tell it. Therefore, you cannot talk of the Chinese New Year without mentioning the Chinese calendar at first.

A Chinese calendar consists of both the Gregorian and lunar-solar systems, with the latter dividing a year into twelve month, each of which is in turn equally divided into thirty- nine and a half days. The well-coordinated dual system calendar reflects the Chinese ingenuity.

There is also a system that marks the years in a twelve-year cycle, naming each of them after an animal such as Rat, Ox, Tiger, Hare, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Boar. People born in a particular year are believed to share some of the personalities of that particular animal.

Vinyl Glove Information And Sizing Recomendations

Using vinyl gloves is a common practice in any industry where bacteria and viruses can be transmitted. The food service industry is a large user of vinyl gloves because they are very affordable and extremely effective at preventing the spread of germs, bacteria and viruses. Vinyl gloves are economical and stronger than latex gloves. The vinyl used in vinyl gloves is a synthetic polymer than is more resistant to tearing and puncture than latex. Used widely in the food preparation and food handling industries vinyl gloves can give you an almost bare hand feel when grasping items. Unlike latex, vinyl is a synthetic substance that very rarely causes an allergic reaction. Vinyl gloves are also used widely in the cleaning industry as barrier against bacteria and infection in restroom and hazardous biological material cleanup.

Vinyl gloves come in a variety of sizes and come in both powdered and powder free forms. Powder is added to some types of vinyl gloves so that they are easier to put on and the powder can also help in preventing perspiration of the hands. It is an industry wide standard that there are usually 100 gloves per box and the one glove will fit both hands. Glove sizes range from small to medium. Small gloves will fit a hand size of 8 and below. Medium vinyl gloves will fit a hand size of 9. Large vinyl gloves are suited for a hand size of 10 and extra large gloves are to be used for hand sizes of 12 and above.

Vinyl gloves and latex gloves are now being used by the US Postal Service as a precaution against terrorism. Vinyl gloves act as a barrier against viruses, bacteria and germs that could potentially be sent in letters and packages. Overall vinyl gloves are an effective way to stay safe in an unsafe world.

Make Money Online Publishing Articles is Easy

Since I quit my job, back in 2001, to make money online I have been learning and writing articles. I haven't always gotten it right but I never gave up, like a few friends have done over the years. If it's not easier than working some people just don't want to be bothered and making money online is always as easy as it seems when other write about it, is it.

Writing articles and getting them published on the many article directories is a great way to make money online if you do it correctly. To make this strategy really work for you there are some things you can do.

1. Be sure you know your topic.

I have tried in the past to fake it till you make it but that didn't work. It seems that when I talk about things I don't know enough about I just look like someone that doesn't know what he's talking about but when I stick to a topic I know, like fly fishing, I get results that end in making money.

2. Be unique and thrive.

It's so easy to just copy others and I don't see any thing wrong with that. I learn from others daily. The key is to learn from others but make what you do unique by giving your very own perspective.

I have watched others that succeed online and I learn what I can from them but the goal is to catch them and even pass them in the search engine ranking but copying them won't do it. You need to be unique and then go the extra mile to do more, the search engines will reward you for your hard work.

3. Don't stop with just one article directory.

I don't use a lot of article directories these days as I have my favorites but there are a lot of them. Don't be afraid to use them.

That brings me back to the point about being unique. If you publish the same article in every article directory you use you won't get near the results you will get if you take the time to spin your main article into multiple unique articles.

4. Publish your main article in EzineArticles.com first.

In my opinion my favorite place to publish articles to make more money online is through EzineArticles.com but they are also the strictest one that I use and they won't publish duplicate content.

I write my article and once I am satisfied with it I publish it on EzineArticles. Once it has been accepted I am good to go publishing on other article directories.

I then take my main article and re-write it into as many unique articles as I need for the other article directories.

To make the articles work best I try to modify the content at least 30% or more, the more the betters.

NOTE: Getting my articles published on EzineArticles.com usually takes 2 days, so I have lots of time to work at making my other articles unique.

5. Make your link count.

I write articles but where I publish them I am not allowed to use affiliate links so instead I create posts on my blogs that are relevant and link to the affiliate programs there. I then link to my post page on my blog from my article signature.

Friends, it's just that easy.

You can make money online writing and publishing your articles on article directories. I blog about my hobbies to make a living online and you can do the same thing just be sure you choose the hobbies you actually spend money on.

Sorting Through the Dropship Suppliers

There are many challenges associated with getting started down the path to dropshipping. One of the biggest challenges is locating the reputable and reliable dropship companies to do business with. The industry has many shady scam artists and here one day gone the next players. The only goal for these dishonest folks is to do everything possible to benefit as much as possible from unwary people who are just trying to make money selling on eBay without being required to invest huge sums of money to get started. If you are considering dropshipping be extremely cautious. Investigate. Be alert and suspicious. Take your time before you decide on the dropship company to supply you products.

First the good news; there are some dropshippers that have already been 'approved' by eBay. Now the bad news. Virtually everything they have to offer is already being sold on eBay by many other sellers. You'll find the way to success is to do the legwork and investigation to locate your own dropship suppliers. Your only other option is to plan on big-time competition and the smallest of profits - if there are profits at all.

If your plan is to use a dropship supplier for your business, you'll soon discover there is a great deal of difference between dropship suppliers. This will be true even when you are looking at exactly the same items. Your job is to make no assumptions. It is to thoroughly investigate every potential dropship supplier before making any decisions about working with one.

Once you've located a prospective dropship supplier to work with you, start asking questions. How long has the company been in business? How long has the company been doing dropshipping? While you may be willing to deal with a company in a dropship relationship, it's important to know if they have experience, or if working with you will be their first dropship experience. If you are the first to work with a company there is the potential for you to make money selling on eBay. However there are also some very real risks to be considered. It is important to go into the relationship knowing those risks are there, and to monitor and stay in control of every transaction.

Complete your investigation with each prospective dropship supplier before making any decisions. Be direct and to-the-point in your questioning. Typically it is the company that provides quick, professional answers that will do the same should an issue arise in the dropship process. Make sure you have an accurate understanding of exactly what products are available for dropshipping, the costs involved and the timeliness of shipment that can be expected. Start carefully to double-check that performance is as expected. Then build your relationship and business with the company as they demonstrate their good performance can be maintained. That's how you will make money selling on eBay using a dropship supplier.

To Your eBay Success!

Using NLP Coaching in Setting SMART Goals

In NLP coaching we come across lots of people wanting to know how to or need help with setting SMART goals. One question we get is why it is some people write and set smart goals and get them and some people write and set smart goals and do not get them? What is it about setting goals that makes the difference? The process of setting SMART goals is nothing new however getting results and getting them on a regular basis can be hit and miss. Here are some new tips using NLP coaching on setting SMART goals that will improve your results as well as how NLP coaching can help in the process to making sure your SMART goals have every chance of becoming reality.

First things first what is a SMART goal? These are goals that are:

S-Simple and specific
M-Measurable and meaningful to you
A- As if now, achievable, all areas of your life
R-Realistic, responsible / ecological
T- Timed, toward what you want

There might be a few variations on these definitions however this is the model we use in NLP coaching in order to get results and I guarantee when followed you will get results!

A few points worth mentioning, if you are on a fixed income and earn $50k a year and set a goal that you will have $120M in the bank in 3 months you will be disappointed as while it is possible, it is not really realistic to be able to make that kind of money in that timeframe.

So the first test is to believe your SMART goal is possible. By this I mean 100% possible. Ask yourself this, will the sun rise tomorrow? Sure you might not see it but will it rise? Most people would be 110% sure it will rise, this is how sure you need to be about your goals. So I hear you say, "if I set a goal for something that I am sure I can get, why set a goal?" Well this is the point. The goal needs to be SMART! We are not saying you can not set a goal to have $120M in the bank just a realistic time frame. I had one person tell me he set a goal to be "surrounded by millions of dollars in 6 months". Is that realistic? Maybe; he got a job as an armoured car driver where every day he was surrounded by millions of dollars, just not his!

So let's get started. The first step is to pick an area of your life:
Health
Relationship
Career
Family
Spirituality

Remember keep it simple and specific. In the following example I am going to use career, in the context of sales.

The monthly budget for my business is $66,000. For the same month last year I did $55,000. So my SMART goal is to make $66,000 for the month. Because we are using a sales budget it will cover the first point of being simple and specific.

$66,000 in monthly sales is also measurable. Now if you are in your own business or work in sales, what will $66,000 mean to you? When setting your goal I would suggest you mention how much profit or commission this figure in sales will give you. For example, $66,000 in monthly sales for the business will yield a profit of $15,000. So let's make this goal as if it is now and check to make sure it is achievable. Last year we did $55,000 so to do $66,000 is not a stretch but is it achievable? Well in this example yes, but you need to check on your own goal. If not, why not? It might be a limiting belief you have. This is why having a NLP coach working with you on your goals helps. A NLP coach can help you remove what your limiting beliefs, but more on this later.

So back to our SMART goal; write your goal as if it is now: "It is now January 31 2009 and I have made $66,000 in sales with a profit of $15,000 for the month". In a small business maybe there are other staff that contribute to sales, so we need to include them. Also make sure it is responsible to have the goal for all. So "It is now January 31 2009 at 6pm and we have made $66,000 in sales with a profit of $15,000 for the month".

It is time for the last SMART goal test. Your goal needs to be timed and towards what you want. Well when we stated the goal as if it is for now, we put in the time and date, and as a tip never leave it as a limited goal, so "it is now January 31 2009 at 6pm and we have made at least $66,000 in sales with a profit of at least $15,000 for the month of January. This will set the business up for a great February".

Let's double check, "it is now January 31 2009 at 6pm (timed and stated as if now) and I have made at least $66,000 in sales with a profit of at least $15,000 (specific, measurable, realistic and achievable) for the month of January (timed and specific). This will set the business up for a great February" (towards what you want).

There we go a SMART goal. But that is just the beginning. You have written it but have you set it?
There are a few different ways of doing this. Some say write it on a piece of paper and put it where you can see it. Some say make up a storyboard for your goal. I believe that you need to put it out into the future and let the law of attraction help deliver your goal. This is not just a bit of mumbo jumbo, but is a proven technique. It's the difference that can make goal setting a success.

Have you set goals and not achieved them before? How can you be sure your goal will be achieved? What if you have an unconscious behaviour, habit or limiting belief that has you sabotaging your goals? To find out how to set a goal so that it is achieved, join our goal setting program. Starting With Simple Things

Building Safety Week Promotes Fire Protection Codes

Building Safety Week in the United States is May 5 - 11, 2008, to promote the achievements and benefits of building and fire protection codes. I'll bet some readers right now are rolling their eyes at what appears to be another marketing ploy of creating a "recognized" day of the year (in this case an entire week) to get you to buy something. I understand the sensitivity, but let me share with you why I am jumping on the bandwagon to recognize and even promote Building Safety Week. (I promise there are no greeting cards or gifts required) Building Safety Week was first observed almost 30 years ago in 1980. Since that time, local governments, building departments and fire departments have dedicated this week to raise public awareness on best building safety practices and to recognize the important role that building and fire prevention codes have in standardizing building safety for everyone.

The theme of this year's program is, "Building Safety Where You Live, Work and Play." This theme is intended to send the obvious message that most people spend a majority of their time inside some type of structure so the topic of building safety deserves a moment of your time. For most people, when you enter a house or building you're not thinking about whether it is properly constructed and safe. This fact alone is a testament to the high level of trust we place in our building and fire prevention codes and the assumption we have that our public servants are properly updating and enforcing these codes.

The sponsor of Building Safety Week, the International Code Council (ICC), along with other code development associations like the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), create the building safety and fire prevention codes that address all aspects of construction. This includes items such as structural soundness of buildings, reliability of fire prevention and suppression systems, plumbing and mechanical systems, and energy efficiency and sustainability. To ensure buildings are safe requires the active participation of property owners, building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, builders, engineers, and others in the construction industry.

This year's Building Safety Week is especially meaningful to supporters of residential fire sprinkler use as the International Building Code (IBC) is at the center of attention with proposed code changes pending that would require fire sprinklers to be installed in all residential structures. The recent US Fire Administration's official endorsement of these residential fire sprinkler requirements has fueled the intensity of this debate.

In greater numbers than ever before, fire prevention departments across the United States are utilizing Building Safety Week to raise public recognition and support for the use of residential fire sprinklers. Although we have achieved a high standard for building quality in the United States, there are still some proven fire protection benefits commonplace in commercial buildings, that are still missing from that building we value most...our home.

Indoor Vs Outdoor Vegetable Gardening

Whether you prefer to grow your vegetables indoors or out, there are trade offs involved. Soil type and preparation, watering practice, light control, disease and pest control, and other tasks will differ between the two environments. Which is preferable can only be an individual choice, based on individual circumstances.

Preparing and maintaining the soil for outdoor vegetable gardening can be a major chore. Nutrients can be exhausted by yearly planting of the same crop. Fertilizers get leached away. Soil disease is more difficult to control. Breaking up clay or changing pH in a large area requires considerable effort. But you do save the effort of preparing multiple containers and changing them out.

Indoor soil preparation requires less fertilizer, but one has to be more careful to control the amount. Excess is more readily retained. The soil has to be prepared precisely in order to provide the right balance between drainage and moisture retention. Outdoor soil is much more self-regulating. More plants are killed by overwatering than underwatering.

But it is much more difficult to devise an automatic watering system for indoor gardens. Outdoors, a simple and inexpensive drip irrigation system is easy to install and use. Indoors, an automatic sprinkler system would be very costly and messy if it isn't done just right. But if you have only one or two containers and enjoy hand watering, it might well be a negligible effort.

In outdoor vegetable gardens there is rarely a problem with adequate sunshine, provided they're planned correctly. In most climates during the Summer it's not difficult to give plants the five or more hours they need daily. Inside the house that can be tricky. Few will want to move plant containers around all day, but finding a single window that receives adequate light without burning the plants can be hard.

But the type of light and shade is certainly much easier to control indoors. Drawing a window shade or closing louvres when the sun is too hot is simple. There are even automatic systems that will do it for you. And putting a plant near a glass window provides something of a natural greenhouse effect without the expense of a greenhouse.

Diseases and pests can be a problem in either environment. But fighting them outdoors is decidedly harder. It requires constant vigilance and generally more chemical assistance. Fungi are more likely from moisture on the leaves during the night. Insects have easier access to lay eggs that become larvae.

But the smell of controls, either in the form of artificial chemicals, organic substances or trap crops can be more unpleasant than many would want inside. Most insecticides don't have pleasant odors. Even plant-based oils can be overpowering, and they are much more expensive than other types of chemical control.

In the end, each grower will have to weigh the pros and cons for his or her particular situation. Either form of vegetable gardening requires effort, but both bring great rewards when done well. There's nothing quite like fresh vegetables for good taste and great health.

Divine Power

Divine power is so great, Paul an apostle of Christ Jesus says in 2Corinthians 10:3, For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. Now in many chapters of the Bible it says that Jesus is over everything, in Psalm 24:1 says, The earth is the Lords and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the sea and established it upon the waters.

I recommend reading Philippians 2:5, it says Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness, and being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to deatheven death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Secrets of Article Writing - Useful Tips to Better Article Marketing

Writing articles to get targeted traffic for your website can be a great idea. Unfortunately, not everyone can pull it off. In fact, due to the high levels of competition online some people will lose traffic to their competitors on a regular basis because of the fact that they have not been able to develop the right strategy for their articles.

There are a lot of things that you need to take into account when you are writing your articles. It can not be a situation, in which you just write erratically and expect to gain positive results. You will need to act out in a planned and focused manner in order to succeed in article marketing.

Here are some ways in which you can improve your article marketing efforts:

1 The most important thing for you to do is create a plan or use a frame work or a flow chart to help you organize your thoughts for your article. A frame work should consist of all the major elements that you want to get across and your flowchart should have an outline of an introduction and then it should have the body of the article. You should also plan on the points that you want to say, especially in the conclusion of the article.

2 Prepare your article well beforehand. Do some research on the internet to pick up some facts and information that you can use. It is important for you to have interesting content that your readers find very interesting and this can only be accomplished by preparation. This way you can make sure that you have the necessary background for each article.

3 While writing the article, don't sway from the flowchart. If you sway from it, your article will become confusing to the reader. It is important for you to be focused and concise, so that you can get your point across. The framework will help you to organize your article.

4 Make sure that you divide your article to several paragraphs. If your writing is viewed in several paragraphs, then it will be easier to read by your readers and is easier on the eye. In addition, vary your sentence lengths and try to use bulleted points and tabs whenever possible in your article.

5 If you don't feel like writing, then don't force yourself to write. It can be detrimental and you will just end up losing your focus even more. You are a human and if you feel too stressed out, go out take a deep breath, watch some TV and then come back for more writing.

Are You Having Trouble Writing Articles? Help is on Its Way!

If writing doesn't come naturally to you it can be hard to write a quality article. Thinking of what you want to write about, trying to word everything just right, it's not an easy task!

Here are some tips and tricks to help make that process go a little smoother.

Always write a ruff draft of your article, if you're a novice writer don't sit on an article site and write your article. It takes time to get good at writing on the spot.

When writing your article the first thing a reader sees is the title. You want your title to be catchy, something the reader can relate to. Questions are generally a good idea, "Do you want...", Are you in...", "Have you..." you want something the reader will answer in there head, tweaking their interest on what you have to say.

Great, you now have your title that will make people want to read what you have to say.

If don't know a lot about your topic research it to get a better understanding. Don't spend tons of time research. Make a list of important points on your subject, if you can understand it most people will too. Remember to keep your article easy to follow and easy to understand; use Layman's terms.

Next you need your introduction. You want an overview of what you'll be touching on in the body of your article. Use, "We'll be learning about..", "If you want to..." phrases like the ones listed interact with the reader.

The body of your article is where you explain what you researched. Explain what it is you're writing about, what benefits it has, how it works; keep your information to the point. Use bullets to highlight specific points you think are important. Sometimes it's best to use the 5 W's, who, what, where, when and why. You don't have to stick with these questions but it helps get you writing.

Your conclusion is where you summarize what you have written about. Make the reader want to take action from reading your article. Again keep it brief and to the point.

Write your article in an informal style, like how you would explain your topic to a friend. Don't worry too much about correcting mistakes or how it sounds right away. This may interrupt the flow of thoughts you're writing about. Take a step back from your article, leave it for awhile then take a fresh look at it. Correct any spelling or grammatical errors. Let someone else read your article and get their input.

Congratulations, you have now completed your article! Submit it to article sites and let readers hear what you have to say.

Can You Tell the Difference Between Evil Profits and Good Profits?

I was reading through an article the other day about the Wiccan religion and they were very upset about a comment that the Christian website owner had made. I would like you to read the response from the Christians first.

"I was watching a police show on television some time ago, and saw a sting operation in which undercover police officers bought drugs from dealers on the street. Invariably, some of the dealers would ask, "You a cop?" The officer would say "no," and the deal was made. Satan often goes undercover. The Bible tells us that he can even masquerade as an angel of light. Just because a certain religion professes no belief in Satan, does not mean its adherents are not falling for his lies. It just means that they're unaware that they are. You said God would be disgusted by our judgmentalism. God has told us in His Word (The Bible) to watch for false prophets and false apostles. God has told us to contend for the faith. He has told us to evangelize. In other words, God has told us to do just what we are doing."

Here's something I would like you to think about if you consider yourself a Christian, read this very carefully.

"God has told us in his Word the Bible to watch for false prophets and false apostles." I would like you to read this statement a couple of times and see if you agree with it. How can you possibly tell who the false prophets are? Do you think that because you are a Christian and believe in Jesus or God, that you will know the difference between a evil profit and a godly one?

I often write articles and have written quite a few of them about religion and Christianity. Seems to be the one that I know the most about, so it gets the most attention from me. If I was to make a statement like the Bible has contradictions in it, would you consider me an evil profit. Someone working for the Devil. I don't think so, because it doesn't make sense, how could you turn a truth full statement into evil prophesies.

If I was to introduce you to a hundred people, could you tell me by looking at them or talking to them, which ones are evil and which ones are good. Most Christians would probably respond to that with, God knows and that's good enough for me. Everyone else who talks bad about Christianity will be considered evil or searching for the truth. They just haven't found Jesus yet, is that right, is that what you believe.

I found this response to the Wiccan believer to be one that I run into often. It seems unfair to others who aren't Christians and one-sided. Most organized religions have answers for everything, the problem is that some of the times these answers don't make any sense at all. If you're going to follow this part of the Bible word for word, shouldn't you follow all of the Bible word for word.

Leviticus 14:9 On the seventh day he must shave off all his hair; he must shave his head, his beard, his eyebrows and the rest of his hair. He must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water, and he will be clean.

Leviticus 19:27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

This will make Christians easier to spot, a bald head with long beards.

Amazing Bathroom Designs

Amazing new trends are seen in bathroom designing - wet rooms, walk-in showers, vanity lights and much more. The minute you reach the market you get lost in the wide variety of bathroom suites and furniture. But it should always be remembered that a bathroom should be designed according to the needs of the user. Installation should be given utmost importance for achieving this.

Physical suitability is the core factor to be considered while designing a bathroom. Working surface heights, floor space, ceiling to floor height etc have to be considered here. There are certain bathroom fittings and furniture that depend on the height of the user. Hence careful attention should be paid while selecting enclosures and bases, tiled wooden frames containing sinks and shelves, artificial floors and shower tray bases etc. There is a tendency to choose aesthetically pleasing things in the minds of human beings. But while selecting bathroom furniture, the practical aspect should be given preference.

The bath is the most important area in a bathroom. Many styles are available in the market for people to choose from. A whirlpool bath would be a perfect choice for a person who would like to relax completely after a day's hectic schedule.

Bathroom taps are another important accessory to bathrooms. Regarding the purchasing of taps there are many options available these days. The styles vary from contemporary to traditional. Also they are available in different shapes and sizes. Another modern trend is to have walk- in showers. The shower cubicle gives the user a comfortable area to shower.

A vanity unit with a stylish sink and cupboard underneath is an option where space is not a problem. Thus if planned properly the space in the bathroom can be utilized to the fullest measure possible.

How to Grow Herbs in Your Garden - Basil, Dill and Lavender

It doesn't matter of you are a novice or an expert at gardening, it is still considerably easy to start a herb garden. It is not only a fragrant addition to your home but it will definitely come in handy for many of your kitchen needs. Herbs are essential in making holistic cures and preventive measures for slight illnesses. Herbs also give depths to the flavor of your cooking. Herbs are also hearty and stalwart plants but you should pay attention to the specific care needed for specific herbs.

Basil - This herb is one of the most commonly grown and is highly regarded by herb garden enthusiasts all over the world. The Basil herb grows well in climates of low humidity and fertile soil. Spring is the perfect season to start growing the Basil plant, but only after all threats of frost have been alleviated as this plant is highly sensitive to cold temperatures and may become damaged if exposed.

When planting Basil, it is important to remember to place each plant about twelve inches apart. This way, it will let each plant gain access to adequate water, enabling it to grow into a healthy plant. After planting the Basil plants, it will take about six weeks to produce mature leaves that are ready for harvesting. When the harvesting is done, a proper drying method will result in a flavorful dried herb that can be used in a wide variety of recipes to tantalize your taste buds. This robust herb would have grown to approximately one or two feet tall and sprouted deep green or even purplish leaves with small white flowers during warm summer months.

Dill - Nothing could be simpler than growing the tasty herb Dill. Just a scattering of seeds thrown into your herb garden can result in stalks that can grow to four feet high. It adds a charm to your herb collection and is used in many recipes. Dills stalks will have special blue-green leaves that are feathery looking and have a bunch of striking yellow flowers.

The Dill plant is a sun loving plant, so areas with full access to sunlight will ensure a thriving plant. A distance of eight to ten inches between plants is the best way to ensure a hardy crop. After sowing the seeds, you should go back in approximately 2 weeks when the herbs reach the height of 1 inch, and thin out the area around each herb. This process will ensure that each plant receives its required amount of nutrients from the soil as well as ensuring each plant is exposed to sufficient sunlight.

The Dill plant is useful in many ways. The beautiful bright yellow flowers make an excellent tool for decorating while the seeds and leaves are the perfect addition to dips and salads. You can harvest the flowers when they are in full bloom and use them as part of your fresh flower or dried flower arrangements. After the yellow blooms have blossomed for approximately two weeks, you can then harvest the Dill seeds. A good way is to trim the flowers and dry them upside down, while suspended over a plate or a piece of paper. Such a method lets the seeds fall, ready for collection for other uses. Finally, crumbling the dried leaves is another way to add the distinct taste of Dill to any cherished recipe.

Lavender - One of the most beautiful and fragrant herbs is Lavender. This aromatic plant makes for a wonderful ground cover for any herb or flower garden as it produces delicate pink and purple flowers nestled on very tall stalks. Lavender is a perennial plant and is at its peak in the mid-summer months. Lavender is frequently a major ingredient in aromatherapy, soap making and potpourri mixes.

This hardy herb is easy to grow, however if choosing to start from seed form, may require a little extra work and TLC. The best way to introduce this plant into your garden is through fresh plants or root cuttings from your local gardening center. Such plants grow well in sunny areas with alkaline rich soil that is not water logged. As the winter months approach, the beauty of these plants will fade, however, during the next spring and summer seasons these plants will return more hardy and lush then the last.

Each of these herbs are a delectable treat offered by nature. Growing such herbs is relatively simple and they have many uses, having them in your collection will add to the fragrance and pleasure of gardening.

Motivating Others - The Secret!

Can you really motivate others? In a word: NO!

I know that sounds weird coming from someone who makes a living in the business of motivation and engagement in the workplace; but I'm not going to waste your time with lies, platitudes, useless slogans and metaphysical crap. The fact is there is no secret when it comes to motivating others. You can provide external motivation, inspiration and incentive but ultimately all effective motivation is internal. If you want to motivate others you need to employ some simple protocols that are too often ignored by organization leaders:

  • Find out what personally motivates each individual on your team.
  • Empower people with the resources and opportunities that support each person's vision of success & happiness.
  • Make sure everyone knows how important his or her role is in the success of the organization.
  • Hold each person accountable for his or her role in personal and organizational success.

One more thing: Get rid of anyone who will not accept personal responsibility for his or her own success and happiness!

I define power as your ability or capacity to act or perform effectively. Give everyone in your organization the opportunity to perform effectively and the organization becomes more powerful. Simple, not easy!

Too often power is confused with control. Power is not control; control is an imposition of will. Power is effectiveness and a person is most effective when he knows his work is generating personal success and happiness.

But...some managers say it's impossible to know the individual needs of everyone in an organization. Divide and conquer! External motivation is a process of effective coaching and mentoring and that's best done on a small scale. You can manage the scale in two way.

  • Delegate closer contact to smaller groups. Hold each management level accountable for knowing what motivates his or her immediate team.
  • Make some time for nearly everyone you want to motivate. A little meaningful contact makes a large impression.

I'm not advocating an uncontrollable system of appeasement where everyone gets everything he thinks he's entitled to. Control should not be confused with power, but control is necessary to some degree at every level of an organization. Every individual is, however, entitled to at least one thing and that one thing is opportunity. A motivated person who doesn't see opportunity in your organization is going someplace else; you don't want to lose self-motivated people!

An effective organization understands the motivational drives of its people and strives to provide the opportunity for the individual to satisfy his or her drive for success. That drive converts directly to productivity and profit.

  • Understand what motivates individuals in your organization.
  • Establish effective coaching and mentoring that supports individual success.
  • Provide opportunity for individual development and success.
  • Hold individuals accountable for supporting organizational success.

You may not be able to motivate others, at least not on an internal level. You can provide external motivation based on the needs of the individuals on your team. Make sure external motivation is in synergy with those needs and the mission of the organization. Be a motivational example for others and you've got real power!

What Does God Care About? - Spiritual Thinking

If I ask you to stop what you were doing, get a piece of paper and a pencil and draw a line down the center of the paper and on one side, write down what you think God cares about and on the other side write down things that you think he doesn't care about, would you do it? Make a list for yourself and then ask yourself, if your religious beliefs are on that list somewhere. As long as the side of the list is longer, about the things that God does care about, I guess everything is okay, isn't it.

If God doesn't care about starvation or hunger, I guess I can understand that. It would make more sense because in the real world, the world God created, it's survival of the fittest, right, wouldn't that be a true statement. The smartest people on the planet and the most educated, aggressive, goal oriented and religious believers seem to have the best lives and live in nice homes, don't they. I really never thought much about starvation but I guess God's plan is based around the strong will survive. I'm just thinking out loud here.

I wonder if God cares about people that are poor and uneducated? These are the meek and don't they inherit the kingdom of God, or am I missing something. Do you think poor people and uneducated people are suffering because God wants them to go to heaven only after they have suffered on earth. I can't really understand the concept of suffering on earth to receive rewards later after you're dead. Just doesn't make sense to me.

What do you think God really cares about? How will we ever know if we're right? If you believe in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism or any other religion that believes in a deity, I guess you can open up a book and gather all the answers. This doesn't make much sense to me either.

Reading these scriptures can often lead to confusion if you're open-minded. Examining these scriptures a little closer can provide you with education. Educating your self on other religions can help you understand more of what God really does care about. I believe God does care about love and compassion, all gods.

If you want to read something funny and get your daily laugh in, you need to read this, it's funny Using Religion Responsibility. It's based on overindulgence.

Employee Motivation Games

Every year at the major company event there are employee motivation games to play. Most of us dislike these games because the majority of them seem silly and pointless. Why waste our time with this is what employees usually complain about.

However, help is on the way. Out of all the employee motivation games played this one seems the favorite. Try a company scavenger hunt. The nice thing about this game is it does not have to be done during a major company event, although right before yearly inventory for smaller companies seems to be a good time. This will work for all companies. Large and small alike. You just need to have a set of company information for the employees to find out.

The reason the scavenger hunt is my favorite of all employee motivation games is that it is easy to set up and easy to play. It is also relatively fun. First, get a list of company information that you want the employees to find out. It can be date of incorporation, date the first product was sold/manufactured, who was the founder, what is the best selling product, and the list goes on. Once you have a set of information you divide the employees into teams. You can set departments against each other or you can have other ways of making teams. Set a time frame, especially if some of the items are hard to find or locate. Have everyone meet back at the designated time and declare the winner or winners. Be sure to have a prize for the winning team or teams.

This is a great game because it is different from the usual employee motivation games. The game is actually educational in nature. Instead of wasting time with seemingly pointless tasks, it actually teaches the employees about the company they work for. The more knowledge employees have about the company they work for, the better they are able to understand and relate to its mission statement and vision. By empowering employees with knowledge, you are inviting them to stay. Isn't this a fun and interesting way to help improve employee retention rates

Changing Habits Can Change Your Life - Goal Setting

Creating super habits are easier than you could ever imagine. Most people have something they would like to change in their lives. If you ask anyone, they are usually able to answer this question, "If you could change anything about yourself, what would you change." All the self help and personal development programs and books available today are full of useful information that nobody seems to take advantage of. You've seen the TV commercials and listen to other people tell their stories, about how they lost weight.

Are you one of those skeptics that find these stories hard to believe. Do you think it's possible to create a life changing habit within 30 days? If you don't think it's possible, have you ever tried to change something about yourself you don't like.

If you haven't tried, how do you know it's impossible. If you have tried to create change in your life, did you quit, did you quit shortly after you started. This is often what most people do. They either quit before they start and never even get started, or they quit within a short period of time after they started. Usually these people have an excuse, most of the time their excuse is quite simply, it was harder than I thought.

Creating super habits in 30 days is possible and you don't have to be an over achiever to accomplish this goal. Creating these habits will require some effort on your part but the rewards most of the time are worth the effort.

I challenge you to change something about yourself you don't like within the next 30 days.

Go to the next step for more information.

Self- efficacy is the conscious awareness of ones ability to be effective in producing a desired outcome of ones task and/or the ability to deal with life challenges. A person that is self-efficient possesses a level of self-awareness that gives them an innate ability to realize that they already possess everything he or she needs to know to not only solve their problems, but to bring their goals, needs and wants into fruition.

As in each of our lives, there are 6 life areas that complete a self-efficient individual: emotional, physical, spiritual, financial, social and intellectual. Furthermore, when we have all these areas balanced we feel happy and fulfilled. The trick becomes how do we balance these areas and meet our basic needs of belonging, power / recognition, freedom and fun. The answer is to meet these needs internally rather than externally.

Think about it for a minute. If we all possess the innate ability to solve our own problems and bring them into fruition, then why are so many of us basing our own fulfillment on the needs, wants and perceptions of others and things (external). We should not be and the reality is; we will never become self-efficient if we do.

So what will it take to become a person with self-efficacy? It takes a decision, a commitment, a strategy and action.

Your Decision- you decide what you feel is your purpose and meaning. You then make up your mind that that you will start living a life that is based on your values and belief system and not from others. For those of you who are spiritual, your foundation of beliefs can be based in the principals and doctrines of your higher power.

Your Commitment- you pledge to yourself that you will utilize all of your strength, skills, talents and resources to accomplish your decision. Take your time and make sure you are being honest with yourself about your strengths, skills, talents and resources.

Your Strategy- you figure out healthy and empowering strategies that will help you bring your decision to fruition. If you realize that, you lack important resources and skills to bring your decision to reality. Strategize how you can use the strengths, skills, talents and resources you do possess, to acquire the critical ones you are lacking.

Your Action- you take positive steps toward your decision. You are simply making movement in the intended direction. Progress is progress. It is not based on how big the growth, it is based in simply growing. If you are growing your progressing, and if you are progressing you are changing, and if you are changing, action is taking place.

If you exercise your self-efficacy, you are one step closer to authenticating your spirit.

Concrete Foundation Repair

Concrete foundations are of two types - poured concrete and concrete block. Poured concrete is a modern manner of laying foundations, while concrete blocks are more traditional. Concrete blocks are preferred for their visual appeal and strength. Yet, as time passes, there may be degradation of concrete.

The prime cause of cracks in concrete foundation is seepage of water. Such cracks caused due to leakage of water are thin and hairline. They may widen over time, but they are present only in those areas where the seepage occurs. In order to repair leakage cracks, it is necessary first to investigate the source and the point from which the leakage originates.

There may be other reasons for concrete foundations to crumble. Soil may lose its moisture content in summer. There may be underground roots which may wither and die. Such natural causes make the soil shrink and hence the foundation may move. Though this movement is gradual, overtime it will cause cracks to occur. These cracks will be large gaping ones, running across the entire length of the foundation. They may even be in the form of tiny holes in certain places.

Whatever be the reason, cracks in the foundation are very perilous if ignored. Repair must be done as soon as possible. Difficulties involved in the repair process are influenced by how big the cracks are.

For tiny moisture created cracks, the repair is relatively simple and can be done by almost anyone. These cracks must first be brushed clean with a wire brush. A jet of water may be passed to remove any loose concrete particles within the crack. The crack is then allowed to dry completely and filled with concrete caulk. If the crack is large, then it is packed with patching materials that are specifically available for concrete. These patching materials must be wet when applied. They are limestone based, and they expand as they dry, filling up the crack completely. The finishing touch is to apply a sealant to the repaired crack.

But if the crack is sinister and not the do-it-yourself kind, then it is most prudent to shell out a few dollars and hire some good repairmen. Such cracks occur due to rods which may have rusted inside and snapped or because of deterioration of the materials present within the concrete. Some leakage cracks when ignored can also reach dangerous levels. Such cracks are more found in poured concrete.

Contractors treat the concrete foundation with urethane injections to extract the embedded water. They may even excavate the area around the foundation and replace the faulty tile or construct a provision for the water to lose contact with the foundation.

How To Hire a Home Stager

Home stagers have the ability to show off your homes best features. With some paint, some cleaning and decluttering, and some knowledgeable furniture placement, your home will shine above others in the same market.

The goal of home staging is to sell your home faster and for more money. Home stagers can do this because they know what the buyers want and know how to produce those wants in your home whether your home is a million dollar mansion or a modest starter home.

How do you know if a stager is a good one? Here are a few tips:

1. The stager knows the market. They know what the buyers in YOUR area want and expect. They stage your home accordingly.

2. If you are asking for more than a consultation (the stager will actually be doing the work in your home), you should be able to see before and after photos. These can be shown by the stager via the Internet or a brochure.

3. Like with many service providers, a great way to find out about a home stagers experience and expertise is to ask around! If they are good, you will find others that tell you so. A good place to start is with real estate agents in your area.

4. Price does not equal experience and expertise. Once again, be sure that you see photos and ask around. New stagers may be a bit cheaper and have great expertise. Experienced stagers may be more expensive but have less expertise!

No matter who you pick, the stager should be able to transform your home into an incredible, sell-able house!

How to Get Your Phone Calls Returned

Getting people to return phone calls in this economy can be a real challenge for marketers of real estate and construction services. It's not easy, but there are a few common sense things that may help when leaving voice mail messages.

Be brief.

Leave a long winded message and see it get deleted. People have busy schedules. Get to the point quickly and improve your chances that they'll return your calls.

Speak slowly and clearly.

Ever get a message where someone races through the phone number? It's really annoying for the receiver to have to replay the voice mail message several times just to figure out the caller's phone number. Speak slowly and clearly and make it easy for people to return your calls.

Always leave your phone number.

Even if you know that the person you're calling already has your phone number, leave your phone number again. Don't assume they have caller id. Failure to leave your phone number will often require the message receiver to go and find your phone number. Do this and reduce your chances that people call you back.

Make it convenient and easy for the person to call you.

Give a variety of times they can reach you. The telephone tag game is alive and well in real estate and construction and it's a big turnoff. It's also rude to ask them to call you back at a specific time. Give the person some choices and reduce the phone tag fiasco. The above tips may sound like common sense, but it's amazing how often they're ignored. It's tough to win new work in this market, There are a lot of contractors fighting for a significantly smaller pool of projects and simple tasks like these can make the difference in winning versus losing new projects.

When Buying New Orleans Properties

New Orleans real estate took a big hit with the multitude of hurricanes that have passed through the area in recent years. This means that there are deals to be had because a lot of people packed up and never looked back.

Now, while there are some great buys in the New Orleans real estate market, they are going to come with a lot of work. You can walk through a home to see the obvious damage like water stains and that will give you an idea of what to expect.

But, to find out just how much work is needed, you need to make sure the home inspection is thorough. Some things can be covered under the contract, but others you will have to fix yourself. Here's what you need to look for when going over your home inspection:

* Exterior Structure

Your home inspector will be checking for cracks, obvious wood rot and the integrity of the roof. Are there shingles missing, holes in the roof, etc.? He will also make sure the driveway is in good shape as well as the trim, fascia and gutters. If there are obvious drainage issues, he will make a note of it as well.

* Interior Structure

Again, he makes sure there are no cracks in the walls and foundation. The floor is also checked for weak spots and water damage as well as the ceiling. Because of the severe flooding, these are very important items on your New Orleans real estate home inspection checklist. Also included in the inspection are the appliances, if any come with the home.

* Wiring and Plumbing

It is likely that there will be electrical damage as a result of the flooding and high winds. The plumbing may have backed up and burst as well. Are the conditions safe or are bare wires hanging, etc.? Also, because there are many old homes in the area, you want to make sure that pipes and wires are compliant with current safety codes.

* Extras to ask for

The above issues are general items a home inspector checks. But, New Orleans real estate is unique in that it sustained a great deal of water damage. So, you will also want to have someone come in and conduct a mold inspection. Mold can create a multitude of problems and be expensive to get rid of.You need to know what you are getting into if you buy the house.

If you have an experienced and licensed home inspector who is familiar with the area and the situation, you should feel pretty good about the inspection results. Once you have all the information, you can decide if the house is going to be more work than you want to take on. Or, you can get a great bargain on a fixer-upper and put some of your blood, sweat and tears into it.

New Orleans real estate is on the rebound, but they need everyone who is ready and willing to help revitalize the area and return it to its former glory.

Water damage to structure, wiring and plumbing are a few things your home inspector needs to look for when going over your New Orleans home inspection. Before investing in New Orleans real estate, contact an experienced home inspector at http://www.realestatelouisiana.com.

How to Choose a Real Estate Agent

One of the most important financial decisions you will ever make is buying or selling a home. Amazingly, few people give finding the right real estate agent much thought. Many times an agent is chosen because of the recommendation from a friend or relative or from an ad in the newspaper. Taking time to select the right agent to meet your needs can save you aggravation and effort in finding a new home or selling your home quickly.

Just picking up the phone book and choosing a real estate agent based on their yellow pages ad is just as smart as choosing a brain surgeon by the same method. Once you make the announcement that you are ready to buy or sell a home, you may be surprised at the number of people who want to represent you. You won't have to worry about finding an agent; you only have to worry about finding a good agent.

Most people are totally backward in the process. They pick up the phone and call about a house they are interested in and from that point on, they are joined at the hip to an agent who may or may not be any good. You have no way of knowing if they are indifferent to your needs, or maybe very new in the business. The only thing you know for a certainty is they are capable of answering a telephone. Find an agent before you find a house.

This is especially important if you are selling a house. Your house is the most valuable thing you own, so it is imperative that you find an agent your can trust. This agent has a tremendous responsibility to you and a tremendous duty--a duty of trust and confidence.

Where to Start?

Asking friends and family for suggestions is a place to start, but don't hire an agent solely on their recommendations. Don't choose an agent based on their personality alone.

The best way to proceed is to choose an agency first and then ask them to suggest a couple of the top agents. Stick with the person you choose. If you see a sign in front of a house with an agent listed, their responsibility will be to the seller first and you, the buyer, second. Let your agent know which property you are interested in and allow them to take over from that point.

What to Consider

Your real estate agent or broker must be licensed by the state to sell real estate. Choosing an agent that is a Realtor means that person is also licensed by the National Association of Realtors and therefore must abide by a strict code of ethics.

  • Avoid dual agencies in which the agency represents the buyer and the seller. It is impossible to be equally represented.

  • Choose an agent that handles homes in your price range.

  • Choose an agent who listens to what you want and who will take the time to explain things you do not understand. You are paying for their time, so allow them to earn their money and ask the hard questions.

  • It is important to choose an agent who is available on your time schedule. If you are only available to look at homes on Sunday, and your agent doesn't work that day, then find one to accommodate you and not the other way around.

  • Make sure your agent can assist you with other services, such as arranging a house inspection, refer you to qualified lending professionals who will assist you with needs, and find real estate attorneys.

  • If you are buying a home, interview the prospective agent just as if you were hiring them for a job, because you are! Ask questions. Take notes. Interview several agents before making your decision.

  • If you are selling your home, ask about the agent's marketing plan. If they are offering just an MLS listing, they are not earning their commission. Make a list of questions and ask every potential agent the same set of questions so you can compare apples to apples. Ask them to explain the market conditions. Ask what makes them different from other agents. Ask why you should choose them. Ask about their firm. Ask for the names and phone numbers of former clients and once you get this list, use it.
